Marty Becker is an expert in cat-care and in his most recent book, ‘Your Cat : The Owner’s Manual’, he provides a number of expert pet care tips. Here Are A Few For Even The Most Experienced Cat Owner:
1. Running Water Is Better Than A Bowl
Cats actually love running water so why not consider investing in a pet drinking fountain? The natural element of cool, running water is extremely appealing to our feline friends, and as cats often suffer from dehydration, this can be a way of getting your pet to drink more.
2. Watch Out For Panting
Particularly if you own dogs as well as cats, you might not think that a panting cat is an issue. However, not all pets are the same, and for cats panting can represent a serious health issue, or even a medical emergency. It could be as a result of extreme anxiety, respiratory problems or heart issues, so get straight to the vets.
3. Avoid Eye Contact
Most people own pets because they like the company and having a creature to lavish attention on. However, the best way to get your cat to come to you is actually to avoid eye contact! Cats will always go to the person who’s not looking at them, which is why perhaps your not so cat-friendly visitors always end up with moggy curling herself round their legs!
4. Cats Are Good At Hiding Pain
Don’t feel distraught if you don’t notice your cat is in pain – she’s learnt to hide it well. Signs to look out for, however, are hesitancy in jumping or climbing, not using the litter tray, and being aggressive or withdrawn.
