The traditional martial art form of Taekwondo has its roots in Korea and when translated the word taekwondo basically means the "way of the hand and the foot". It is therefore very natural that the larger part of all the techniques taught includes kicking techniques. While the manner in which taekwondo techniques are taught or demonstrated might vary slightly from one martial art school to the other, here are some of the most basic forms of kicks in taekwondo which every student needs to master before attaining a coveted rank in Taekwondo.Ap Chagi or the Front Snap Kick- Also known as the "snap kick" this kick is delivered by first raising the knee to ones waist and then kicking at the target in one straight and smooth motion. This kick is one of the first forms of kicks in taekwondo that is taught to beginner students. Mastering the perfect way of delivering the front snap kick can take significant amount of training and practice but when perfected this is one of the most powerful techniques used in self defense and protection.
